EMU WAR 1932 #The Aussie Outback

Did you know that in November, 1932, Aussie soldiers, armed with machine guns, fought the “Emu War”?

It’s true. In the Campion district of WA, farmers were struggling with an influx of an estimated 20 000 emus. The emus were damaging fences and eating crops so the locals called for government assistance, and Minister of Defence, Sir George Pearce, sent in the army!

While there were no human casualties of the Emu War, the general consensus is still that the emus won, with less than a thousand emus confirmed killed – despite the use of tens of thousands of machine gun rounds!

Emus 1, Army 0. Only in Australia! 😁
